Meine Berlin-Reise vom 8-15.07.2006 zur
Fußball-WM.
My Berlin Trip from 8-15 of July 2006 for the Football-WM.
I arrive late in Berlin at night, watch the end of the fooball game.
The I head for the Teufelsberg (Devil's hill) to camp wild and set up camp
in the dark, using only a small bike flash light; here my first sight
after waking up in the morning.

The next day I meet Oliver, my son and we go to the WM fan mile.
Am nächsten Tag treffe ich Oliver, mein Sohn und wir gehen zur WM Fan
Mile.

The first half of the WM we watch near the Olympic Stadium at a TV-store.

Late that night I ride deep into the dark Grunewald forest and hang up
my sleeping hammock. I wake up and take a picture.

I continue by bike to Staaken and visit Andreas and Gabi and stay there
for 2 nights.

Then I ride my bike along the Havel River and go to the Sharfe Lanke where
I lived in the years 1971-74.

I had one of these appartments for West-German workers. You can see the
Teufelsberg in the background where I had camped 4 days earlier.

In the other direction you see the Havel tower, near where I had hammocked
3 night earlier.

I then take the public ferry (BVG) to the other side of the Wannsee Lake.

Here you see the large Wannsee beach.

I set up my tent wild (UPTTS) at the Teufelsee (Devil's Lake) not far from the
Teufelsberg where I had camped 3 days earlier.

I use the hammock as a ground cloth and mainly for it's mosquito netting.
I sleep
not in the length of the tent, but sidewise; there is plenty of room in
the UPTTS.

The UPTTS is kept nicely stretched using the stretch cords, that also hold
my bag in my rear bicycle basket.

My UPTTS at a distance, 100 meters from the lake.

In the morning I go for a swim in the Teufelsee. After the swim I take
down my UPTTS.

I visit the new train station; it is huge and very futuristic. It is huge
and I am impressed.

That afternoon I find some funny art statue near Rosentaler Platz.

I set up camp once again at the same spot at the Teufelsee.

This time I sleep length wise. In the night heavy rain, but I was
absolutly dry. In the morning I go again for another swim.

I got a call from my job position at Macromedia, so I have to do some work.
I go to the easy-internet cafe´at the Kudamm and work (my office in
Berlin).

In the evening I head back after getting my bag from a locker at the
Technical University sport center on the edge of the Grunewald forest.
That is also where I would take my daily shower and wash my ultralite wind
jacket and pants.
I head back on top of the Teufelsberg. This is the view in direction
Olympic Stadium. The large building is an appartment house.

I find a nice spot with a littel bench. Of course I wasn't the only one
up there.

I get up at sun rise and after packing I bicycle to the Winterfeld
Market, where my friend Willi has a sales stand. He is surprised to see me.

I stay about an hour and then head to the train station, where I 'organize'
my train ride back to Heidelberg, where I arrive late in the evening.
